She became partiuclarly associated with contemporary British music, giving the world premiere of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Piano Concerto and recording Edward Elgar's Piano Quintet with the Stratton String Quartet under the composer's supervision. A number of composers wrote music specifically for her, particularly Arnold Bax who wrote most of his piano pieces for her. This includes the music for David Lean's 1948 film version of Oliver Twist. Cohen plays the piano solos in the film.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eCohen was awarded the CBE in 1938.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a VERY RARE black and white photograph (5.25\" x 4.75\") of the young Harriet Cohen. neatly signed and inscribed (\"For John Street from Harriet Cohen\") in black fountain pen ink.
