After a few years she returned to Europe and subsequently appeared in Italian and international productions. She won the New York Film Critics best supporting actress award and an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of a grotesque fading film star in Truffaut's Day For Night (1973).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAfter 1954, she worked mostly in Europe. Her other notable (non-nominated) film credits include The House on Telegraph Hill (1951), The Barefoot Contessa (1954), Barabbas (1962), Juliet of the Spirits (1965), The Secret of Santa Vittoria (1969, uncredited), Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972), The Assassination of Trotsky (1972), Young Dracula (1975), Jesus of Nazareth (1977, TV mini-series) and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a rare black and white publicity photograph (8\" x 10\") for Cortese's appearance in her little-known film Les Caprices de Marie (given the title Give her the Moon in America) This is about Marie, a young provincial girl who is seduced by an American billionaire. She agrees to follow him if he moves her entire illage to New York. There's a fine signature in blue fountain pen ink across a clear area of the image.
