She began in a show called Songs at the Piano, was a regular member of Children's Hour on the BBC Home Service and the star of Nursery Sing Song from Manchester.\n\nShe worked with the Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts during the Second World War and was for six years the pianist for Wilfred Pickles' radio show Have A Go. Her extensive radio career included a period as a presenter and interviewer on Woman's Hour for five years and she acted in numerous radio dramas.\n\nCarson is, however, most famous for playing an icon of television's Coronation Street, the sharp-tongued harridan Ena Sharples, from 1960 to 1980.\n\nThis is a very cheery black and white photograph (5.5\" x 3.5\"), with a very crisp, bright signature (\"Sincerely, Violet Carson, Ena Sharples\") in purple ink across clear areas of the image.
