Andrew Cruickshank - 16206

Distinguished Scottish character actor, remembered most fondly for his portrayal of Dr Cameron in the long-running BBC television series, Dr Finlay's Casebook, which ran for 191 episodes from 1962 until 1971. Cruickshank began his career on stage in 1930 and made his film debut in 1937 as the poet Robert Burns in Auld Lang Syne. His later film credits include The Cruel Sea (1953), Laurence Olivier's Richard III (1955), The Battle of the River Plate (1956), The Story of Esther Costello (1957), The 39 Steps (1959), Kidnapped (1960), The Stranglers of Bombay (1960), El Cid (1961) and Live Now, Pay Later (1962). Cruickshank also appeared in many television plays and series, amongst them A. J. Cronin's Dr Finlay's Casebook, containing his most famous characterisation, Doctor Angus Cameron, a crusty but erudite senior partner in the rural general practice run in Tannochbrae, with the help of the much younger Doctor Alan Finlay (Bill Simpson) and their stiff Presbyterian housekeeper Janet (Barbara Mullen). This highly popular BBC production ran from 16 August 1962 until 3 January 1971, after which Cruickshank continued with it on BBC Radio 4 for seven years. He finally bade farewell to the character on 18 December 1978. This is a fine black and white late photograph (6" x 4"), neatly signed ("Yours, Andrew Cruickshank") in dark blue ink across a light area of the image. There's also a short initialled note ("Sorry for Delay! Merry Christmas. AC") to the reverse. In very good condition
