Hattie Jacques - 16099

Plump, much-loved British character actress who starred in vivid supporting roles from her early twenties; married to comedy actor John le Mesurier (1949-1965) A radio comedienne from 1947, her first major role was as Sophie Tuckshop, the greedy schoolgirl, in ITMA - Tommy Handley's immortal radio comedy. A tenure in Educating Archie followed soon after, and it was there that she first met her long time sparring partner, Eric Sykes. Hattie and Sykes continued to work together for 30 years, in a succession of TV series that became incredibly popular. Jacques didn't get into her film comedy stride until the 'Carry On' series came along. She starred in the first, Carry on Sergeant (1958), played an unforgettable matron in Carry On Nurse (1958) and appeared in her last, Carry On Dick, in 1974. She died of a heart attack. This is a rare black and white photograph (5.5" x 3.5") of Hattie in sophiticated mode, signed and inscribed (To John with all good wishes, Hattie Jacques"), Sadly, there are major flaws - the signature is very light and can only be read with difficulty, and there is a very light vertical bend running through the signature area. Priced accordingly.
