American actor, originally a Broadway matinee idol, who established a niche as a charming or corrupt villain in films, such as Tobin in Hitchcock's Saboteur(1942)
One of his best-known roles was in Magnificent Obsession (1954). Kruger also played the supporting role of Judge Percy Mettrick, who unsuccessfully urges Gary Cooper to leave town in High Noon (1952) and mob boss Stevens in the film noir 711 Ocean Drive (1950).
Other films include Dracula's Daughter (1936), Dr Ehrlich's Magic Bullet (1940, Murder My Sweet (1944), Duel in the Sun (1946), and many others.
(His screen villainy was completely at odds with his cheerful publicity photographs and his signature, with its smiley face opening letter.)
This is a very fine vintage sepia photograph (9.5" x 7.5") showing Otto Kruger as Dr Stanley Norton in the 1936 British film thriller, Living Dangerously. There's a fine signature (with trademark smiley face) in blue fountain pen ink across a clear area of the image. One small bump to the lower left corner tip and a light, unobtrusive partial crease beginning around his left ear and following the line of his shoulder to the edge (you have to look for this and it genuinely detracts very little, if anything from the appeal of this photograph). Overall condition is very good.
