English singer, and actor who

Jones shot to fame as the original lead singer and harmonicist of the rock band Manfred Mann (1962Ð66) with whom he had several hit records including "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" (UK #1, US #1) and "Pretty Flamingo" (UK #1). After leaving the band, Jones established a solo career and notably starred as a deified pop star in the film Privilege (1967). He presented The Blues Show on BBC Radio 2 for thirty-two years, from 1986 to 2018, and continues to perform alongside former Manfred Mann bandmates in the Blues Band and The Manfreds.

This is a very rare original black and white publicity photograph (9.5" x 7") for Paul Jones' extraordinary role as Steven Shorter in Privilege. In this cult sci-fi film he plays a pop singer who is the most beloved celebrity in the country, built up to messianic status by political minders with a national control agenda. Jones' co-star was the lovely Jean Shrimpton, playing an artist hired to paint his portrait. There's a bold signature and inscription ("To John - best wishes Paul Jones") in black ink across the image. To the reverse of the photograph is a fine short note ( "Thank you for your very kind letter. I hope this 'Privilege' still is all right. I wish you good luck. Paul Jones") in black ink. There's a very light horizontal bend, barely visible when viewed head-on, but overall condition is good.
