Fine Yorkshire-born character actor
Kingsley started out in amateur theatricals in Manchester before making his professional debut at the age of 23. In 1967 he made his first London appearance at the Aldwych Theatre and then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, devoting himself almost exclusively to stage work for the next 15 years
In 1982, Richard Attenborough chose Kingsley for the demanding title role in the epic Gandhi. The film swept the international awards that year, earning the 39-year-old actor overnight success and a Best Actor Oscar. Adamantly refusing to recycle the same roles, Kingsley spent the next decade playing a wide spectrum of characters, in such films as Harem (1985), Turtle Diary (1985), Island (1988), Dave (1992), Bugsy (as Meyer Lansky, 1992), Schindler's List (AAN 1993), Death and the Maiden (1994), Species (1995), Twelfth Night (1996), The Tale of Sweeney Todd (title role, 1998), Sexy Beast (AAN, 2001) and The House of Sand and Fog (AAN 2003). He was an excellent villain as The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 (2013).
This is a fine original colour lobby card (8" x 10") for Gandhi, nicely signed in dark blue ink across the lower white border. In very good condition.
