She reportedly received the name Blossom because of "a neighbour who delivered peach blossoms to her house the day she was born.Ó

Blossom had a wonderfully light and girlish voice. Once you hear it, you fall in love with it. Miles Davis described her as ÒThe only white woman who had soul.Ó

She was a brilliant pianist, with a talent that was eclipsed by her unique singing style. She said she considered herself "a jazz musician, learning to be a jazz singer".
