Worn on the left arm, this is a good example of an armband for the CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS. This is marked ÒWELFAREÓ to signify the unit that the troop was attached to. The CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS was established in 1949 and was active during The Cold War, with a view to managing the aftermath of a major national emergency, such as a nuclear attack. The CDC was disbanded in 1968.
