Polish actor and
singer.
Kiepura started out
in opera singing with the Warsaw State Opera. He later sang in Vienna and Milan
before launching a career during the '30s. Usually he appeared in musicals
opposite Marta Eggerth, his wife. His credits include Farewell to
Love (1930), My Song For You (1931) and Be Mine Tonight
(1932).
The couple came to
the U.S. later in the decade and while he sang with the New York Metropolitan
Opera, his stateside film career never took off.
Kiepura continued to
perform in a few European films following WW II, retiring in the mid-'50s.
This is a very fine vintage 1930s ROSS postcard, showing Kiepura in a scene from his 1934 film, My Heart Calls You. There's a bold signature and date (1939) across the image in dark blue fountain pen ink. Although the signature is, in part, across darker areas of the postcard, legibility remains very good, and overall condition is also very good.
