American actor, director and writer. Cassavetes was one of the most unique characters in the annals of Hollywood, an accomplished actor and an innovative filmmaker whose experimental, inexpensive features, often improvised, were American counterparts to the films that were the product of France's New Wave. His credits as an actor include 14 Hours (1951, from which he was cut completely), Taxi (1953, his "proper" film debut), Crime in the Streets (1956), and Edge of the City (1957), The Dirty Dozen (AAN 1967), Rosemary's Baby (1968), Capone (1975), The Fury (1978) and Whose Life Is It Anyway? (1981). Cassavetes' first film as a director, the 16mm feature Shadows (1960) was considered a watershed in the birth of American independent cinema. Later films that he wrote and/or directed include Too Late Blues (1962), A Child Is Waiting (1963), Faces (AAN 1968), A Woman Under the Influence (AAN 1974), The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976), Gloria (1980), Love Streams (1984), Big Trouble (1985). Cassavetes' films often featured his own stock company, which included his wife Gena Rowlands and personal friend Ben Gazzara. This is a very fine black and white photograph (8" x 10") of Cassavetes, filming in the rain. There's a beautiful signature in black ink across the image. In mint condition.
