Great flamenco guitarist, real name Ricardo Baliardo.

Baliardo, of Spanish Gaetano descent, was born in a gypsy caravan in southern France. (Manitas de Plata means "Little Hands of Silver" in Spanish.)

Upon hearing him play at Arles in 1964, Pablo Picasso is said to have exclaimed "that man is of greater worth than I am!"

An American manager obtained a booking for him to play a concert in Carnegie Hall in New York on November 24, 1965. A French Phillips record of 1963 was re-released in America in 1967 to great success. He toured the world from 1967 and in 1968 played at the Royal Variety Performance in London.

De Plata died in a retirement home in Montpellier on 6 November 2014. The cause of death was not disclosed; it was reported that he had been in poor health since a severe heart attack in April 2013.

This is a very fine CBS Records black and white publicity photograph (5.5" x 3.5"), boldly signed in red ink. In excellent condition.
