Mary Jerrold - 14476

British actress who cornered the market in sweet little old ladies. Jerrold learnt her craft on stage before making her film debut in 1916 in Disraeli, playing opposite Dennis Eadie in the title role. Other silent films followed, but it wasn't until the arrival of the talkies that her screen career got into its stride, with good supporting roles in films that included Alfred Hitchcock's Jamaica Inn (1939). Jerrold was at her busiest in her twilight years, in films such as The Way Ahead (1944), The Magic Bow (1946), The Ghosts of Berkeley Square (1947), Bond Street (1948), The Queen of Spades (1949) and She Shall Have Murder (1950) Her last film was the 1953 comedy, Top of the Form, in an excellent cast that included Alfie Bass, Anthony Newley, Richard Wattis and Gerald Campion. This is a very fine vintage sepia photograph (5.75" x 4"), nicely signed ("All good wishes, Mary Jerrold, January 1952") in blue fountain pen ink. In very good condition. (J/S)
