Miriam Karlin - 10872

Great British character actress.

Karlin is probably best known for playing the belligerent, militant shop steward Paddy in the The Rag Trade, a BBC television sitcom set in a textile factory. Paddy would use the slightest opportunity to cause a strike; her trademark and catchphrase was blowing a whistle and shouting "Everybody out!" She played the role, to great success, between 1961 and 1963. The show was later resurrected by commercial television from 1977 to 1978.

Karlin has also appeared in a large number of films, including Room At The Top (1959), The Entertainer (1960), The Millionairess (1960), Heavens Above! (1963), The Bargee(1964), A Clockwork Orange (1971) and Mahler (1974).

This is a very fine black and white mid-1960s photograph (7" x 5.25"), nicely signed and inscribed ("To Ruby, with best wishes, Miriam Karlin") in blue fountain pen ink across a clear area of the image. One light crease across the lower left corner but otherwise in very good condition.
