Nicholas Clay - 14202

English actor. RADA-trained Clay's first film credit was a small part in Joseph Losey's The Damned (1963) but it wasn't until 1981 that he became internationally famous, playing Lancelot in John Boorman's epic retelling of the Arthurian legend, Excalibur. He followed this with an appearance as Mellors in Lady Chatterley's Lover (1981), and Agatha Christie's Evil Under the Sun (1982). Clay was a prominent player in Laurence Olivier's Old Vic Company in the 1970s and was in most of the hits of that golden period - Jumpers, The Misanthrope, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Equus. His television work was also extensive and he made an excellent Alexander in The Search for Alexander the Great (1981). The last years of his life were spent teaching drama at the Actors' Centre and the Academy of Live and Performing Arts. Clay's early death at the age of 53 was due to liver cancer. This is a very fine black and white photograph (5.5" x 3.5") of the young Nicholas Clay, boldly signed and inscribed ("John, After all this time I send you my very best regards, Nicholas Clay") in black ink across the image.
