Robert Duvall - 16606

Great Oscar-winning American character actor. Duvall began making a name for himself as a stage actor in New York and appeared as a modestly billed character actor in films such as To Kill a Mockingbird (as Boo Radley, 1962), Marlon Brando's The Chase (1966), Countdown (1968), The Rain People (1969), True Grit (as the heavy shot by John Wayne, 1969) and MASH (as Major Frank Burns, 1970). Duvall became an international star with The Godfather (1972), playing mob lawyer Tom Hagen and receiving the first of his six Academy Award nominations for the role. Thereafter, he had steady work in featured roles in such films as The Godfather: Part II (1974), The Killer Elite (1975), Network (1976), The Seven-Per-Cent Solution (1976) and The Eagle Has Landed (1976). It was Duvall's appearance in Apocalypse Now (1979) that solidified Duvall's reputation as a great actor. He won his second Academy Award nomination for the role, and gave the world the memorable phrase, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning." In 1983 Duvall finally won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Tender Mercies. After a post-Oscar period in the doldrums, he returned as one of the industry's premier character actors, appearing in such films as The Apostle (Oscar-nominated, 1997), and A Civil Action (1998). This is a very fine colour photograph (8" x 10") of Duvall as Frank in the 1993 romantic drama "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway", opposite Richard Harris.
