Beautiful, redheaded British actress. John entered films in 1934 playing typical ingénue roles. During the war years, John thrived in sharply etched, self-assured roles in films like The First of the Few (as R.J.Mitchell's wife, 1942) and The Gentle Sex (1943). She was especially effective as the widow of aviator Michael Redgrave, in the popular "homefront" film The Way to the Stars (1944). Other films include Green For Danger (1946), Fame Is The Spur (1946) and Never Look Back (1952). Following her marriage to the Labour politician John Silkin in 1950, Rosamund John began to lose interest in filmmaking and made her last, Operation Murder, in 1957. This is an exceptionally pretty vintage black and white publicity photograph (9.5" x 7.5") for Fame is the Spur (1946), nicely signed and inscribed ("To Ronald, Rosamund John") in blue fountain pen ink. In excellent condition.
